The paper contains a reflection on work of the legal clinics assistant. The author proposes the new methodological and organizational solutions, affecting the functioning of the legal clinic and describes a wide range of possibilities of involving assistants in the process of clinical education, which may be used during all classes conducted by the teachers within the clinics.

Until now the Law Clinics have been focusing on supplying legal advice mainly in the form of verbal advice. In the Polish law system there are regulations that allow the Law Clinics to legally substitute a party. To expand the limits of the supported legal help it is necessary to meet up the requirements such as selecting the right legal form for the Law Clinics or resignation from conducting business activity by the Law Clinics.

Zastosowanie technik audiowizualnych w klinicznym nauczaniu prawa

One of the characteristic features of Clinical Legal Education distinguishing it from other activities which are taught at law schools, is the usage of active teaching methods. They are used by academics, who are both supervisors within legal clinics and academics teaching regular classes. Clinical supervisors broaden the scope of active teaching methods, enriching them with new ideas. It is because the goal of clinical legal education is both legal assistance to people who are underrepresented, students’ education and its improvement.

One of the ideas used by some legal clinics in Poland, is the introduction of audio-visual techniques as an active teaching methods, when working in legal clinics. The new teaching method is based on the recording of situational scenes, cases or simulated mock trials and moot courts, which are, after their technical development, the basis for conducting classes for the selected topic which corresponds with the theme of the film.

The article is a kind of methodological instruction, which may be helpful when preparing the educational film. It is also a source of knowledge about the possibilities of film’s usage in teaching within legal clinics. The article is divided into two main parts. The aim of the first one, is to show the various stages of preparation of the film. The second is to show the development of lessons with film’s usage. It ends with a summary of information on audio-visual techniques, as an active method of teaching law and a question addressed to all people supporting CLE on effectiveness of that method.

Specyfika pracy z klientami pozbawionymi wolności

Text presents how to deal with a specific group of clients who are imprisoned or arrested. Students working on such cases must solve problems which do not occur while giving legal aid to other clients. First of all, text describes what are typical kinds of problems which imprisoned clients have and what kind of advice they expect from law clinic. There is shown how legal clinics can enable prisoners to obtain legal advice – eg. by preparing special forms for them which would be available in a penitentiary. Secondly, there is presented how to communicate with such clients, how to get all the information and documents necessary for preparing legal opinion and what to do if the client is released from prison. Finally, there are some ideas for making work in such cases easier and faster.

The article discusses a role of the new body at the Warsaw University – the Antidiscrimination Commission – which was established by the decision made on 8^th March 2010 by Rector of the Warsaw University. The authors describe the future functioning of the Commission and the bodies of her support (such as Legal Clinic and Center for Disputes and Conflicts Resolution of the Law Faculty). Existence of the Commission may increase the level of sensitivity, not only of the students, but also of the academic teachers and help us to follow European standards in the area of the antidiscrimination regulations.

Z doświadczeń zdobytych w Tajlandii

An Author as the first Polish law student participated at the Legal Studies Internship 2009, which was organized by the human rights non-governmental organization the Bridges Across Borders South East Asia in Thailand. The broken human rights are widely developed in an article and it is the main idea of the organization’s activity.

The Author prepared and taught workshops at the Juvenile Detention Center every week and awaken prisoners that although they are in a closed area, they are still human beings and have the same human rights as every person has.

The next task was preparation lesson plans with the interactive teaching methodologies about HIV/AIDS.

The next aspect in the article is related with the Legal Clinic at the Chiang Mai University, in which the law students give advice to poor people. The Author had to observe how the law students work, which kind of cases they have and how to prepare the Legal Clinic annual report.

The intern should work in a community service during the internship. The Author visited an orphanage.

Besides the volunteering, during the internship, many meetings were organized with the interns, eg. the workshop with Malaysian students to discuss about the controversial topics related with law.

The Author, after the end of the program, works in the Law Clinic at university and joined to the student’s program „Street Law” to prepare absolutely new workshops about human rights, which are presented to pupils at schools.

The Bridges Across Borders South East Asia is the organization which works in support in human rights but furthermore this is also organization which joins people from different parts of the world to show the different law. Bruce Lasky and Wendy Morrish, who are the directors of the Bridges Across Borders South East Asia, gave the unrepeatable possibility to see the lively law, in which the rules can not be so important as people think.
